Types of Street Maintenance

This process rebuilds pavement by “recycling” the existing asphalt. Existing asphalt and base materials are pulverized using a specialized machine called a reclaimer. The resulting material is then used to resurface the street.  

Reclamation is one of the most commonly used road rehabilitation methods and can increase the roadway’s lifespan for decades. Where necessary, there may be work done to repair or replace a section of curb or sidewalk, or a driveway. In those cases, work will be done prior to the street work. 

This maintenance technique removes the top layer of asphalt from the street before a new layer of asphalt is overlaid. This process can extend the lifespan of a street for 10-15 years. Seal coating is the application of asphalt emulsion, followed with an aggregate cover. This process can extend the life of a street from 7 to 10 years.
