Fire Code

The philosophy of our fire code enforcement is to provide occupant safety and to prevent damage to
property through voluntary compliance with the fire code.

The current fire code adopted by the City of Portland is the 2015 International Fire Code.

The Portland Fire Department conducts annual fire prevention inspections of all commercial property.
There is no fee for this service, which includes one re-inspection. If compliance is not obtained during
two inspections, a re-inspection fee is required for each additional re-inspection.

Click here to download a self-inspection form that shows the common items inspected that cause
violations.

Please note that all matters involving permitting, plan reviews, Certificate of Occupancy, sprinkler
systems, fire alarm systems and re-inspection fees are handled through the Building and Development
Services offices at 1101 Moore Avenue, Portland, Texas.
