Division Structure
The Communications Division is comprised of a supervisor and six communication officers who are responsible for making sure that the citizens of Portland get the assistance that they need. During a normal shift, two communications officers are assigned to operating the communication center. Communication officers are known for their ability to multi-task, especially under during emergency conditions.

About the Communication Supervisor
Monte McCollum has been with the department for about 15 years with approximately 25 years in the field of public safety communications. He also served in the U.S. Navy and is currently a member of the Emergency Committee of the Regional Homeland Security Council.

In addition to supervising the division, McCollum conducts in-house training with communications officers every three months and also meets with communication officers from other jurisdictions to share information on procedures, problem solving and training. He is also one of the team members in our IT Division and assists in the daily technical aspects of the division.
