About the Department
The utilities administration of the public works department provides operation, maintenance and repair to the water distribution, wastewater collection system and the wastewater treatment plant.

Responsibilities
  • The City of Portland purchases its treated drinking water from the San Patricio Municipal Water District. View information about where our water comes from
  • Commercial wastewater collection provides guidance for proper commercial wastewater disposal
  • Our wastewater treatment personnel are responsible for the operations and maintenance activities at the wastewater treatment plant on Moore Avenue
  • Residential wastewater collection is tasked with maintaining the sewer lines and mains throughout the city
  • Water distribution includes maintenance of the water towers, storage tanks, distribution lines, fire hydrants and water meters throughout the city
