PORTLAND REBUILDS

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the City of Portland is streamlining contractor registration and certain permitting processes to accelerate the rebuilding process.  Here is all the information you need to know…

TIPS ON HIRING A CONTRACTOR

Rebuilding your fence?  Permit fees are waived.
If you plan to repair or rebuild a fence(s), the City of Portland has streamlined its fence permitting process and waived the associated permit fees to make the process easier. Permits will be automatically approved upon email submission to permits@portlandtx.com. You can also apply for a permit in person at the Portland Public Works office, located at 1101 Moore Avenue.

Remember that while the fees are being waived for fences, a permit is required. Also note that chain-link fences and barbed wire fences are not allowed in Portland.

Hiring a Contractor?  Make sure they’re registered.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Portland residents and businesses can count on being contacted by contractors looking to provide repair and rebuilding services. As a means to help protect our residents from dishonest contractors, the City of Portland will require ALL contractors to register with the City before beginning any work in Portland.  The City is waiving the associated registration fee for contractors hired to repair or build fences, as well as those hired for tree and brush removal. (Please note that if your friends and/or family volunteer to assist you with these repair projects, they are not required to register.) Contractors will be required to furnish their name, address, and driver’s license.

Contractors can register and apply for permits at the Portland Community Center at 2000 Billy G. Webb Dr. starting Monday, Aug. 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Permitting personnel have been relocated to the Community Center from the Public Works building until further notice.
