The Patrol Division consists of 15 officers supervised in the field by a sergeant or a corporal. Patrol officers are on duty 24 hours a day 365 days a year, working various shifts. They are the city's front line in public service and crime prevention. Patrol officers are committed to developing partnerships with our citizens and strive to work together to solve problems throughout the community. Other duties include answering various calls for service, serving warrants, conducting vacation / business checks, enforcing traffic laws and investigating traffic crashes.
Sergeant Paul Good began with the department in1988. He holds a Masters Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. Sgt. Good also holds an instructor license, is a certified Intoxilyzer operator, a crime prevention inspector, a standardized field sobriety testing practitioner (SFST) and served as the department's range master for several years. Sgt. Good was also one of the Portland's original D.A.R.E. officers. Prior to joining the Portland Police Department, Good spent two years working with the marina patrol for the city of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Sergeant Dwayne Hodge has been with the department since 1993, and holds an Advanced Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. Sgt. Hodge is a licensed paramedic and is a standardized field sobriety testing practitioner (SFST). Prior to becoming a police officer in Portland, he was a paramedic with the city's Emergency Medical Service. Hodge has been assigned to the Patrol Division as a patrol officer and a patrol corporal. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2005.
